No! No matter your fitness level you can train here.
It is not necessary to have experience in martial arts prior to training.
No one is expected to compete but the option is available. Only 1 in 10 of our students will go on to compete despite the wide fame we have garnered from our competition results.
All of our classes have many offerings to suit any schedule and with over 70 classes running each week it is best to contact us directly for me information.
Membership cost at SBG is dependant on the classes you take, how you enroll and which payment method works best for you (in advance or monthly). You can find out all of this information by contacting us.
Anyone from age 3 and up can train. You know your body best and we can ensure that your limits are respected.
As early as possible but whenever you decide to begin is the right time!
There is always a risk of injury but we do everything in our power to reduce that risk. Overall martial arts training is safer than most sports since it is highly controlled.
Do not worry about how quickly you pick it up you will improve by being in class and there is no measurement of “good” we place on you.
The only gender-specific classes we have are for women only.
Some classes require training equipment which you can purchase in the gym or we can suggest other vendors.

Regardless of your shape or size you are able to train and grapple with people of all body-types. Martial arts are about skill not size.
While there is inherent risk doing drills and alive-training we have reduced the likelihood of being injured considerably by focusing on good safety practices and having well-educated coaches.
Though we have locations worldwide, the closest in portland since 1992, this location just opened and we can’t wait to have you break-in our mats.
Check out various class pages to see which peeks your interested then ask the coach you have your consultation with about picking the right one for you based on your needs and wants. Honestly choose whatever looks fun!
Your training partner will vary from class to class and generally speaking will be random unless the drill requires being with someone of roughly the same size. Unless you have a specific request to be with someone of the same gender for comfortability you will be paired with people of all ages and builds.
No! Our coaches are gender-diverse.
Wearing a gi is traditional to jiu-jitsu and some moves are only able to be completed if a gi is worn.
SBGi is on every continent aside from Australia, which we hope to expand to soon, and Antarctica but we have to check with the penguins first
Our team is full of great suggestions but before you jump into learning from the internet start with a strong base in one of our foundation classes.
